Benefits of Lentils for the Body

According to researchers from the University of Manitoba in Canada, lentils can lower your blood pressure and improve the health of blood vessels.

Who would have thought that lentils, a very dismissive but delicious meal, have so many health benefits? Adding lentils to your daily diet can actually reduce your blood pressure and your hypertension risk.

High blood pressure, otherwise known as hypertension, is a condition that in the long term can cause quite a lot of harm. Patients with hypertension are more likely to develop heart disease, heart attacks, stroke, or kidney disease.

According to researchers from the University of Manitoba in Canada, lentils can lower your blood pressure and improve the health of blood vessels. They are also a source of soluble fiber and certain antioxidants.

"This is an amazing result, as they provide a non-pharmacological way to treat diseases related to vascular dysfunction," says researcher Dr Peter Zahradka.

As you age, you will be more likely to develop the risk of heart disease. Unhealthy lifestyle choices such as lack of exercise, drinking too much alcohol, and obesity can be one of the trigger factors. If your family has a history of hypertension then your chances of developing high blood pressure also increase.
