Knowing Tinnitus, Ringing Sound in the Ear

Tinnitus is a condition in which a person having a ringing sound (like a bee in the ear) and is considered to be a problem of how the ear works and the brain communicate. According to Metro.co.uk 600,000 people worldwide suffer from severe tinnitus.

Although usually described as a ringing in the ear, it can vary greatly, some people feel there is a sound pounding in his ears, and some others feel the sound of hiss in his ears.

This is a condition we never suspect will happen to us, especially if we have never had a previous hearing problem or have no genetic predisposition of experiencing tinnitus.

However, according to Gemma Twitchen, the senior audiologist of Action on Hearing Loss's favorite listening to loud music can cause tinnitus to get worse, and eventually become permanent.

"Listening to loud music at night or from your personal music player can affect your hair cells (sensitive cells in the cochlea responsible for hearing)," he said.

In general, a safe time for a person is to listen to the sound at a rate of 85 decibels for eight hours. But when you are in the nightclub, the sound levels can reach 120 decibels with a safe time for 15 minutes.

Action on Hearing Loss says that a pair of simple earplugs can be enough to protect you from tinnitus.

Paul Breckell, Chief Executive of Action on Hearing Loss said, "It's very worrying that some of our studies show that as many as 53.4 percent of people aged 18 to 24 have tinnitus, and 40 percent do not realize that listening to noise can cause permanent tinnitus."

And so far, there is still no drug for tinnitus, therefore preventing the occurrence of tinnitus is the best way you can do.
