Hand in Hand with Lover Relieves Pain

Recent research shows that holding hands with lovers can ease the pain. Where holding a lover's hand is able to repair brain waves so as to ease the pain.

Reporting from the Indian Express, the greater the empathy of the couple to the partner who was sick, then the brain wave more active and balanced so that the pain will disappear. The research was conducted by the University of Colorado.

"The physical interaction as a form of communication in the modern world is getting smaller," says lead researcher Pavel Goldstein.

Hand in hand with a lover can alleviate the pain of holding a lover's hand fixing brain waves so as to ease the pain.

Goldstein and his team involve a group of heterosexual couples aged between 23-32 years who have been in a relationship for at least 1 year. They measured participants' brainwave activity with electroencephalography (EEG) for 2 minutes.

During the measurements, respondents were asked to sit with their partners without touching, the rest of the respondents sitting with their partners while holding hands and sitting in a separate room with their partner. The researchers also performed a re-examination of EEG when experiencing mild pain in his arm.

It was found that the presence of a partner, with or without a touch may help to improve the balance of alpha waves in the brain. The wavelength is concerned with the focus of attention. That is, when respondents hold hands when sick, then the balance of the wave of each respondent increased sharply.

Also found that when the respondent sick and lovers can not touch it, then the balance of brain waves will be reduced. Pain also disrupts the interpersonal balance between couples, but touch can restore balance. In addition, the sense of empathy when the sick couple also can not be expressed without any touch.
