Low Carb Bread More Healty ?

Many consider that low-carb bread is healthier than bread in general. "Low-carb buns are the same as gluten-free bread, because they replace wheat with something lower in carbohydrates," explains Natalie Rizzo, RD.

The term "low carbohydrate" bread still does not have a universally clear size, so bread that is considered "low carb" is a bread containing half a carb from regular bread.

The term "low carbohydrate" bread still does not have a universally clear size, so bread that is considered "low carb" is a bread containing half a carb from regular bread.

"Usually one slice of regular bread contains 15 grams of carbohydrates - so if you have a 30 gram content of the sandwich," says Keri Gans, R.D.N, C.D.N.

"Honestly, that number is not a lot, but if you're on a low-carb diet that recommends not to consume more than 100 grams per day, 30 grams will feel a lot," he said.

With the increasing popularity of paleo and keto diets, many low-carb buns are made from almond and coconut flour, Rizzo explained. "It could be added some other processed ingredients, such as whey protein isolate or soy products," he said.

However, the use of other flour typically needs to add more ingredients to make the bread feel like wheat bread.

"Some types of low-carb bread are really healthy, but some other types of corn syrup with high fructose and other additives," says Rizzo.

It's not so bad for you, but low-carb buns do not have the most complete nutritional bread, Rizzo says. "Some types of low-carb buns are made with almond and coconut flour with fiber content and the protein is not as high as bread in general," he said.

"If a person has diabetes, low-carbohydrate bread can help prevent spikes in blood sugar," says Rizzo. But unfortunately "many people do not have health problems and think that low carbohydrate bread means fewer calories, but that is not necessarily the case."
